Breakfast Brainwave--Oats Congee

So yeah...i got in from work today, wickyd hungry and all, and well, it was 5 am, so yeah, a wee bit early for breakfast i know, but hell, didn't i already mention that i was hungraaaaaaaay!
So i rummaged in my ill-stocked kitchen and fridge, and this is what i found:
Quick cooking Oats (aye, the Quaker kind..mine were some other brand though)
Green chillies
Garlic
Ginger
Coriander leaf
some carrots.(still looked orange, and edible!)
masala peanuts (i made 'em, yessir, roasted 'em, and then stir fried 'em in a wee bit o' oil with turmeric, red chilli pwdr and salt..and a dash o sugga..the yin-yang thing y'see)

So..what did i do, you might ask?...ah..here we go
ta daaaaa..."Oats Congee"!:)....brilliant, no?

Brought a fistful of oats and a gallon of water to boil in a witch's cauldron (jus kidden..a regular mundane steel vessel..). Mashed up a coupla Gr Chillies and clove of garlic in a Mortar and Pestle(this is true, i ALWAYS use my MnP, tastes so different when done with it!), popped it into the boiling cauldron, with salt, and a cup of thinly sliced carrots...Now say the magic chants, (mine, is 'Cook faster you slow-cookin gruel!')...so once it boils up nice and pretty..(remember to keep stirring, otherwise, most of your Congee, will havta be wiped off the stove:))...then take it off the stove....Now for the garnish, crush some of the masala peanuts and toss into a hot pan, with some crushed ginger (you DONT need oil, theres fat in the peanuts, remember, lardbutt!), just crumble the crushed nuts and ginger together...and sprinkle it onto your bowl of steaming congee, also tear up some of the green coriander into it...Njoi:)..(yeah, eat it hot alright...!)

here's the gyaan on this one...it so happens, that this is a very common breakfast thing (albeit, with rice, instead of oats) in China and south east asia...and they have hazaar variations on this recipe...but the basis is always boiled cereal (rice, oats, etc...), with seasonings and all kinds of toothsome tidbits (could be roasted peanuts, fried eggs, dried fish..whatever-you-fancy!)to go on top..and is basically a 'cooling' food, according to asian (Indian and Chinese) medicine (this is nto coutning whatever gunk you add into it...just the plain gruel, is very cooling, perfect summer morning meal)
